eORBISB2G Helps City of San Antonio Save Taxpayers Money

(San Antonio, Texas) December 18, 2000 - eOrbisB2G, an operation of San Antonio-based Orbis Online, Inc., recently facilitated three online real-time reverse auctions for the City of San Antonio, resulting in a total savings of approximately $21,000, or 40%.

Motivated to save taxpayers money, Terry Brechtel, Executive Director of Administrative and Financial Services for the City of San Antonio, approved the pilot program that made the City of San Antonio the first governmental agency in the State of Texas to "test the water" with online reverse auctions for procurement. The pilot launched earlier this month on eOrbisB2G's business-to-government website (www.eOrbisB2G.com) when the City posted three RFQ's (Requests for Quotes) for 10 Tempest Ventmaster Fire/Rescue Saws, 40 Motorola Portable Radios and 20 Compaq Pocket PC's. As facilitator, eOrbisB2G recruited suppliers across the country to participate in the auctions which were conducted utilizing eOrbisB2G's patent-pending web-based e-procurement solution.

"We are extremely pleased with the results of the real-time auctions," commented City Councilman and advocate for application of cutting-edge technology to government operations, Tim Bannwolf. "We are absolutely thrilled with the money the City saved through these reverse auctions. I'm also excited to see that this type of technology is available right here in our own backyard. The potential savings for the City of San Antonio and the entire public sector, by utilizing this form of e-commerce, are simply unlimited."

The City will continue to evaluate the use of online auctions to identify the products and services with the greatest savings potential utilizing this technology and service. "The first round of auctions was very successful for the City. We are honored to play an important role in the City of San Antonio's pilot program and look forward to assisting them in their future procurement needs," said Sarah Munford, Director of the Public Sector for eOrbisB2G.
